Writer: Carina Audrey | Illustrator: Kinar Nisa | Editor: Kinar Nisa

We’re about a month away from the new semester, and less than a week away from the all important course registrations. Are you guys ready for it? Yup, it’s time for us to fight for classes for the next semester! Course registration is absolutely important in your life as an APU student, it’s not an exaggeration to say that it can mean life or death for your GPA. To help those who may be unfamiliar with the process, we’ve put down some tips and tricks that you can use to help you with registering courses!

Mark your calendars.

The very first thing you should do before anything else is to keep up-to-date with information from the Campus Terminal. Mark your calendars for the date of the course registration and make sure that you’re right on time for it. To make it easy for you guys, here are the dates and times of course registration for Fall Semester 2020.

PERIOD A

  • APM:

  • 1st Priority (3.0 GPA and higher): Mon, September 21 at 9:30

  • 2nd Priority (2.5 GPA and higher): Mon, September 21 at 12:30

  • Regular: Mon, September 21 at 15:30

  • Registration will end on Tue, September 22 at 12:00

  • APS:

PERIOD B

  • New or Reinstated Students: Thu, October 1 at 10:00

  • Current Students: Thu, October 1 at 15:00

  • Registration will end Fri, October 2 at 12:00

Keep in mind that these are all in Japan Time, so make sure that you check it with your specific time zones! In Period B, you can sign up for classes that haven’t been filled to their quota in Period A. During this period, you can also sign up for classes from all subjects, which means APM students can take APS subjects and vice-versa. There will also be two correction periods on October 12th and December 7th both starting at 10:00, Japan Time.

Research!

Research over the classes you want to take! Check the Campus Terminal regularly to find out if the schedule has been released. For the Fall Semester of 2020, the excel file has been uploaded, and in there you can look at the classes that are available and also the schedule for those particular classes. You can also look at the syllabus for classes in the Campus Terminal to find out more on what you will learn in that class. Some classes are available for one quarter (Q1 or Q2) only and some classes are a semester long. Remember that you also need to make sure that the classes that you’re planning to take don’t clash with your mandatory classes.

Don’t be scared to ask for help.

Are you still confused over which classes you want to take? You can ask and reach out to your seniors (or senpai) for guidance. Be specific in the classes that you’re asking for! Make sure that you mention the professor’s name so you can get all the details of the class. Some classes are more reading-heavy and some are groupwork-heavy. Sign up for classes that you feel fits your studying methods so you don’t end up dying in the middle of the semester! This is the perfect time for you to get to know your seniors and also get some good information out of it. Don’t be scared, we’ve all been there before, and we’re willing to help!

Are you sure you’re ready?

APU recommends that you use Internet Explorer to sign up for classes, though you can in fact use your preferred browser to do so. The course registration will be done in the Campusmate website under ‘Course Registration’, so make sure once the link is accessible, you click on it immediately. The servers will be absolutely crowded with people that are planning to sign up for classes, so make sure that your internet connection is steady. Be patient and keep refreshing if you’re still unable to access the link. Sign up for the classes that you absolutely want to register first, and then once you’ve secured a seat, save changes, and log out to lock in your seat. This is very important for classes that are popular, so make sure to ask around on the status of the classes you chose. Some people use the class one-by-one-and-log-out method and some use the choose-all-the-classes-and-log-out method. Whichever one you want to use is all up to you and your internet speed!

That’s all the tips and tricks that we have today! If you want to know the specific step-by-step details of the procedures of signing up for a class, then you’re in luck. Our APUINA TV friends have created a full video explaining how to do this perfectly. Head on over to our YouTube page, or you can click this link to watch the video. We wish you all good luck for course registrations, and make sure that you guys stay healthy, wash your hands, and wear your masks!
